New Year’s Eve

It’ll be a pretty low-key event on our end. It’s supposed to snow and blow this afternoon and tonight, so we’ll see if that comes true or not. Maggie and Scottie will be spending the night with us, and they’re bringing little Daisy Mae, so Barley will be worn out. Yay!  Happy New Year, all!

2012

I could have plenty of resolutions, if I chose to. Like, say, lose 200 pounds. Or exercise more often at least once a year. Or find a publisher for some of my drafts. Or visit Mom more often. Or save lots of money. Or whatever. But you know what resolution I’m making? This: I’m gonna [...]

Yesterday

We don’t like Barley’s groomers. They’re rude. But 2 days ago, when we had her groomed, I wrote this letter — intending to give it to them right before walking out the door after picking her up. They were nice, though, when I picked her up, and so I couldn’t bring myself to give them [...]

Happy Birthday, Little Man!

Today is my little brother‘s birthday. He’s 31, but he’ll always be my little brother. Happy, happy, happy birthday Little Man! I love you tons!

Mom vs. an iPad

I’ve been thinking that perhaps an iPad would resolve many of my mom’s computer issues. There wouldn’t be constant restarts and updates, and she wouldn’t have to worry about so many options and buttons. She uses her computer mostly for light e-mail, light web searching, and occasional document typing and printing. What do you think? [...]

Perfection

No one is perfect. Actually, no one is even close to perfect.  Whenever I hear people talking about training the perfect dog, I want to tell them to concentrate first on making themselves perfect dog owners. When I hear people wishing for perfect bodies, I want to tell them to concentrate first on perfecting their [...]

Longest Day of the Year

It’s the Winter Solstice today–the longest day of the year. And there’s no snow, and it hasn’t even felt cold yet. Which is nice, because now the days will slowly start getting longer. But I keep thinking about my friends who’ve recently moved to Minnesota from out-of-state. They probably wonder what this whole bitching-about-the-cold-snowy-winters is [...]

Megan in the Kitchen

She’s been my best pal since 1996-ish. She’s hilarious. She’s kind and fun and smart. And she makes a mess in the kitchen. But alas! She’s gotten better over the years:

Mitt, 2

I try not to write much about my boss on this website, but I gotta share his response when I told him he appeared in my Mitt Romney dream: I had a Mitt dream last night, too! He was working at Caribou. Very enthusiastic worker, but in over his head. Cracks me up.

Brown Christmas

This winter is weird. I don’t like it. It’s warm and brown. There’s NO snow on the ground. None. It’ll likely be a brown, snow-less Christmas. Stupid. On the bright side, winter won’t seem so Godfersakinly long if we don’t have snow cover until January. Just a couple months–much better than last season’s 7-month-long winter.

Work Dreams, Featuring Mitt Romney

My dreams last night featured the following cast: Joe (a groomsman from that pesky wedding of mine) Mitt Romney Aaron (my boss) Ben (my coworker) Here’s what happened: I went to a work function–like, a large, gala-type-dress-up-and-be-well-behaved-while-”networking”-type-thing. I sat by Joe, whose father was Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney mentioned to Joe and I that he [...]

For Whatever Reason…

For whatever reason, my friend Leah sent me the following image. She said it made her think of me. Weird.

Today’s Goals

1.  Tonight I will awaken at 3 a.m., at which point I will obsess frantically about my finances. 2.  Today I will invalidate a friend who is in therapy by telling him or her it is just a crutch.

If You Haven’t Read This…

Par-tay!

It’s gonna be a long weekend ahead–but all of it will be fun. I have a party at Leah’s house on Friday night, then the farm Christmas party with Nate’s family on Saturday, and then a cookie- and treat-baking day with Alicia and Megan on Sunday. Whew!

Dude, Where’s My Snow?

Dude. It’s December, and we have NO snow on the ground, and the weather has been warm. I hate it. I want cold. None of this 20-degrees crap. And snow. Like, feet and feet of snow. Now.

One of My Favorites

One of my favorite Facebook status updates from 2011, courtesy of an old co-worker: First meeting today: “we need to offer more models and stock more for immediate delivery.” Second meeting: “we need to standardize and reduce our overall inventory.” Aint that the truth, man…
